Not every memorable experience in Sikkim needs speed, altitude or adrenaline.

If my guests want to slow down for a few hours, I can arrange a visit to Borong Hot Spring, locally known as Borong Tsa-Chu, near the Ravangla–Borong region.

The spring lies beside the Rangit River, reached after walking downhill from the vehicle stopping area. Naturally heated spring water emerges in this quiet river valley, making the journey itself part of the experience.

Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation describes Borong Tsa-Chu as sulphur-rich and identifies it as one of Sikkim’s recognised hot springs. It also notes that Borong is believed locally to be among the warmer hot springs in the state. Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation

At Alpenglow Tours & Travels, we arrange the transport and fit the visit into a suitable Sikkim itinerary. We do not operate or own the natural spring.

Activities Plan

We arrange the journey towards Borong according to the guest's itinerary. This activity makes the most sense for travellers already staying around or travelling through Ravangla/Borong, rather than marketing it as a quick Gangtok add-on.

The vehicle stops at the designated road-access point. From here, the hot spring cannot simply be reached by driving to the pool. STDC states that visitors need to walk downhill for around 45 minutes, with a concrete footpath leading towards the riverbed.

Guests continue on foot towards the hot spring. Because the return involves walking back uphill, I would mention this clearly before accepting bookings from elderly guests or anyone with mobility limitations.

At the riverbed, visitors can spend time around the natural hot spring and use the designated bathing area where conditions permit. STDC specifically advises visitors to:

  • Wear appropriate swimwear
  • Carry a towel
  • Carry a change of clothes
  • Follow safety measures
  • Avoid entering the main river current
  • Avoid drinking and smoking
  • Avoid littering and excessive noise

After the visit, guests walk back up to the vehicle stopping point and continue to their next destination according to the itinerary.
